The New Addition to ONYX Motorbikes’ RCR Moped line, The CTY2 moped

ONYX Motorbikes’ RCR, the 60 mph retro e-bike will now get a Moped Sibling, named CTY2.

ONYX motorbikes, the California based manufacturer, is expanding their electric line of bikes. After robust sales for their first ONYX RCR retro e-bike model, the company now debuts the CTY2 moped city bike.

The company has seen robust demand for the RCR retro e-bike over the past years, with expanding demand across the US. The RCR is not your standard e-bike, powered by a 5.4kW hub motor, this e-bike goes 60 mph (96km/h) and runs on full hydraulic suspensions.

The bike is fully tricked out from rear dual-piston hydraulic disc brake, reinforced rear swingarm, adjustable seat mounts and CNC manufactured parts. The battery dual-pack of 3 kWh offers a great range of 100 miles in Eco mode, or 40 in sport mode.

Now the RCR will be joined by a more urban styled moped, the CTY2 are ONYX’s low-cost model, with half of the speed of its bigger brother. The CTY2 has been brewing over the past few years, but was put on hold in favor of supplying the demand for the RCR e-bike, and now with improved and updated specifications, ONYX reveal the full details of the CTY2 e-bike.

The CTY2 are street-legal e-bicycles, with a limited 750W (1hp) motor, and 20-28 mph rated speed (32-45 km/h). A simple user modification can unlock the bike’s full potential, with 2 sets of wires that can be connected to enable normal and sport modes, vs the default ECO mode. Sport mode opens the bike’s full capacity of 1.5kW nominal and 4kW peak power hub motor.

Normal mode will go up to 30 mph (51 km/h) and sport modes will offer higher speeds of up to 40mph (64km/h) and possibly even as much as 45mph (72km/h), both more powerful than the street-legal moped class, with up to 20mph (32km/h).

The CTY2 will feature a 60V, 1.4 kWh battery pack with a new quick charging connector included. The new charging port is located near the bottom such that it can be accessed without opening the cover of the bike to charge the battery.

Boasting a range of up to 60 miles (96 km) in ECO mode, as much as 50 miles (80 km) in Normal mode, and a shorter, but more riding fun for 40 miles of range (64km) when running on Sport mode.

The new ONYX CTY2 e-bike are available for pre-order already, for a price of $3,699. With expectations of starting to ship the new model as early as July this year, as soon as production will begin, in California.

Here’s how it compares to the RCR, starting at $4,349 for the most basic model, and up to $6,142.99 with the dual pack and all accessories, the CTY2 offer a more affordable price while still giving the rider a compact ride, with full heavy duty suspension and an urban comfortable ride.
