Hero Electric AE-47 motorcycle and the AE-29 electric scooter showcased in Auto Expo 2020, are expected to launch in 2022.
The Hero Electric AE-47 electric motorcycle, will likely be delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the company’s focus on its low-cost range model. In a recent report by Carandbike, Naveen Munjal, MD, Hero Electric confirmed that the AE-47 electric motorcycle is ready for production, but its launch will be delayed. The AE-47, which was first revealed at the Auto Expo 2020, will be one of Hero Electric’s premium products along side lighter electric scooters. While not giving an expected launch timeline of the AE-47, Munjal did indicate that the electric motorcycle will likely be launched by 2022.
These are announcements that were expected to happen with quite a few companies in the space, and Hero Electric is already a big player in this space locally. With production models for various light electric scooters, an affordable and excellent products like the Photon, Optima, Atria and more.
“We’re certainly going to launch products in the premium category. The AE-47 and other premium products are ready, but the launch is likely to be delayed. With the current market scenario with the COVID-19 second wave, as well as our focus on low cost electric two-wheelers, the launch of our premium range will be pushed to a later date, perhaps sometime in 2022,”

Hero Electric had also presented a new electric scooter at the Auto Expo 2020, as well as an electric trike, a three-wheeled electric vehicle. The electric scooter, model name AE-29, with a top speed of 55 kmph on paper, is also positioned as a premium product in its class. In some descriptions, it is presented as the first IOT-enabled electric scooter with Bluetooth connectivity, mobile charger, anti-theft smart lock, mobile app connectivity, digital instrument cluster, walk assist and reverse facility. Both the AE-47 motorcycle and the AE-29 electric scooter are only expected to launch in 2022.
