EMX Powertrain joins first season of FIM E-XPLORER World Cup as a manufacturer

EMX Powertrain is the third manufacturer to be selected for the FIM E- Xplorer World Cup, starting in Q3 2022. Followed by announcements by Electric Motion and MUGEN, EMX Powertrain will line up with their EMX Pro dirt bike for season one of this World Cup.

We’ve covered the Dutch company since their announcement that together with battery manufacturer ELEO and the Dohms Projecten, supported by Yamaha Europe N.V. and the Royal Dutch Motorcycle Association (KNMV), the company plans to bring a competitive and purpose built MX bike. The company proceeded to Dirt track tests and Heavy Sand Track Test – on which it performed excellent.

After more rigorous testing, the company recently launched another video of their heavy sand track test. Its innovative all-electric motocross bike will now be put to the test against top tier OEMs, such as MUGEN and Electric Motion, as well as others to be announced, when the series kicks off later this year.

EMX Powertrain was founded in 2018 by Elmar Dohms after recognizing the need for innovation in motocross in the form of new, all-electric motorcycles that went above and beyond the capabilities of their ICE counterparts.

Combining the properties of a traditional dirt bike with the instant power delivery and functionality of an electric MX motorcycle, the EMX Pro unites some of the best technologies known to motocross with leading developments on electric powertrains.

“EMX Powertrain was one of the first OEMs to respond to our call for interest in the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup when we launched the series in the summer of 2021,”

Valentin Guyonnet, E-Xplorer Founder & CEO.

“Elmar has an enviable track record in electric powertrain development, coupled with decades of experience in motocross.

“It’s fascinating to see the results of EMX Powertrain’s partnership and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how the series can help drive technology even further forward. It will be incredible to see EMX Powertrain line up alongside so many other top manufacturers when the season starts in Q3 2022.”

Along with other top-tier motorcycle manufacturers, EMX Powertrain will take part in the inaugural 2022 season of the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup to hone and develop the next generation of clean, electric motorcycles that appeal to a growing population of climate-conscious riders.

Lining up alongside M-TEC (Mugen), which we recently reported on joining the competition, as well as Electric Motion (EM) will put EMX at the forefront of MX electric manufacturers.

“I would like to congratulate Valentin and his team on their huge dedication to electric motorsports,” “EMX Powertrain is proud to be registered as an Official Manufacturer of the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup.

“We believe this championship will be of great value to ongoing developments and technologies for the next generation EMX Powertrain bikes.”

EMX Pro will be another key manufacturer in the E-Xplorer World Cup, that will not only provide the companies taking part in to bring their technology to the test, and function as a learning lab for them to further develop their technology and bring more awareness to the space.

“As a manufacturer of innovative electric motocross bikes, we support the mission of the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup to use electric racing to accelerate innovation. Through working together with E-Xplorer, and contributing to this electric adventure, we launch electric racing into a new era by racing emissions free and endorsing diversity and equality.” Elmar Dohms, EMX Powertrain Founder.

“We look forward to competing for the title against established brands as well as inventive pioneers, while all aiming for the same goal: propelling electric motor racing into the future.“
