Combining Robotics and Origami-Inspired Design, the Stilride 1 Sets a New Standard for Lightweight, Sustainable Electromobility

Stilride, a Swedish electric OEM, has recently announced the specifications and pricing for their first-ever electric motorcycle, the Stilride 1. The motorcycle, or rather electric maxi-scooter was initially categorized as a Sport Utility Scooter (1), but has now been rebranded as a lightweight electric motorcycle. It will be available to the public in 2024 and each bike will be handmade in the company’s Stockholm facility.

As we previously reported, STILRIDE has raised €3.7 million in a recent funding round to further develop and refine its STILFOLD technology, which involves using robotic arms to fold steel over curves to create light, durable shapes. The technology minimizes waste and reduces the climate impact of production, and the company plans to use it to speed up electrification in Europe and revolutionize sustainable design and manufacturing using “green steel”.

The first release of the Stilride 1 will be called the Limited Founders Edition and will be individually numbered. It comes with black fenders, black details, and a stainless-steel chassis. The motorcycle is powered by a hub-mounted, 8-kilowatt permanent magnet synchronous motor that generates 207 pound-feet of peak torque and 155 pound-feet of nominal torque. The nominal power of the bike is 6 kilowatts or 8 horsepower, and it has a top speed of 60 miles per hour.

The Stilride 1 is equipped with a 5.1 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that offers an estimated range of 75 miles on a single charge. It can be charged using a standard 110/220-volt outlet and can be fully charged from empty in just four hours.

The motorcycle’s suspension consists of an upside-down fork at the front and a single shock absorber at the rear. The wheels are 13 inches and fitted with 130/60-13 tires. The Stilride 1’s braking system was co-developed with Swedish braking company ISR and comes with ABS provided by Continental. It also has connectivity via the Stilcontrol smartphone app, which pairs with the motorcycle’s electric vehicle control unit (eVCU).

The Stilride 1’s wheelbase is 1,290mm (50.8 inches), ground clearance is 140mm (5.5 inches), rake is 22 degrees, and trail is 82mm (3.2 inches). The motorcycle’s seat height is listed at 810mm (31.9 inches), and its curb weight, including the battery, is 286 pounds. The solo saddle is adjustable, and an optional rear package rack is available.

The Stilride 1 will have an MSRP starting at €15,000 (approximately $16,410 USD). According to the company, the exact release date will be announced in the summer of 2023.

The Stilride 1 is an impressive and stylish electric motorcycle that offers a range of 75 miles on a single charge. Its lightweight design, powerful motor, and adjustable saddle make it an ideal option for those looking for a high-performance electric motorcycle, and willing to pay the price tag for this unique technology. The company’s emphasis on hand-made production adds an element of exclusivity to the Stilride 1, which will undoubtedly appeal to those looking for a unique ride.
